Sheriff announces criteria for inmate releases
The Fresno County Sheriff's Department, facing a $2.8 million budget cut, today announced the criteria it would use to release an estimated 800 jail inmates.
Sheriff Margaret Mims has said the releases would be necessary to absorb the reduced budget. Mims said the department would lay off 20 correctional officers and close two floors of the north annex jail in downtown Fresno.
